Anonymous asked: Hi Caitlin. I was just accepted to Yonsei for this coming fall. I wanted to ask you if there's something like a "Courseguide" or some webpage where students can provide feedback on the classes they took. I wouldn't like to randomly take a class and realize after a while that the prof is not good or something like that. Thanks a lot!
Unfortunately there is not one that I know of. :/ It seems that Korea has not yet discovered the usefulness of sites like ratemyprofessors.com that we have here. Or if they have, perhaps they are all in Korean and unknown to us. You’re just gonna have to take the risk of getting some bad teachers. And it’s quite likely that you will have some incompetent ones, so prepare yourself…
earlshmurl asked: hey! do you know if i can use my phone in korea? i have a samsung galaxy s2 :)
I actually have no idea. :/ I just got a phone after I arrived there so I know nothing about bringing your own phone. I think there’s some kind of process called “unlocking” but that’s all I know. If you do some extensive googling you may be able to find out! Wish I could have been of more help!
Anonymous asked: Hi Caitlin, I was just wondering, how hard would you say it is to get into the EAP program with Korea? Is there a GPA requirement? Thanks!
I think you need a 3.0 at least? Not sure though. It also might differ among programs.
Another video project my friends and I did! We did a cover of Big Bang’s new song Blue. Shot our own music video and recorded our own vocals. Yikes! Hehehe…
This one we actually JUST finished, and the contest is still going on, so please do feel free to like the video on YouTube, or if you want to be SUPER helpful, make sure you’re signed into YouTube, go here, select Blue, Etc., and Date Added, and go to page 12 and vote for us (username is Caitttlinnn).
This took sooooo long to complete but it was funnn!
Since this is Korean-related, I thought I might as well show this here. Self-promotion and whatnot, but hopefully also mildly entertaining. xD Even though I’m no longer in Korea, I’m still involved in the pop culture, clearly!
Did this with my friends back during the Christmas season, both for fun and to enter a contest~
Anonymous asked: Hi, i just stumbled upon your post before and i was wondering how and where you got your ticket for the yg concert? My friend and i are planning on going overseas soon so i want to know just in case they do decide to have one, thanks!
They are usually sold on G-Market! Although there’s not always English translations for the ticket information, so you should either know some Korean, or have a Korean-speaking person help you buy them if possible.
kaymmiller asked: Any advice on if taking the morning (9 to 1) language class at KLI or the normal afternoon (4 to 6) class is better for someone planning to take 3 other classes? I really want to get closer to being fluent while in Korea. Thanks!
If you want to learn more then I’d recommend the morning one, but the problem is taking three other classes. If those three other classes are necessary, then I think you might have to take the afternoon one just due to time constraints AND unit limit.
Anonymous asked: I really hope you still check this haha. I'm starting UCI this fall and I really want to study abroad in Korea (probably just a summer session.) Just wondering, how much money did you have to save up for this? and how much Korean did you know? and any tips/advice would be great. Thank you! :)
For me financial aid pretty much took care of everything. Grants AND loans. But beware, you probably WILL spend a lot in Korea. The good thing is that everything is really cheap there, but then, that makes you want to buy a lot and eat out all the time.
As for Korean, I had studied three years of it before arriving in Korea. It definitely helped with some things, but honestly you CAN survive there pretty easily only knowing English. ><
Anonymous asked: Hi Caitlin! I'm thinking of doing the EAP program for Korea this coming spring and wanted to know if it was a pain transferring the courses from Yonsei to your UC. Did you discuss which courses you were taking with an advisor or someone? Hope you can get back to me!
No, it wasn’t a pain at all! If you’re worried about which classes will count for your major(s) specifically, then sure, talk to an advisor, but for me it was pretty self-explanatory. And coming back after Korea, it was easy to work it all out. I just had to get a form and fill out which courses I took and what categories I wanted them to count in, and attached the syllabi, and then it just had to get approved.
divineegrace asked: Hi! I was wondering if you knew whether KLI students are able to join clubs like IYC, Mentors Club, or Yonsei Global? Are they even worth joining? lol Also since you're doing both KLI and EAP would you say KLI students get treated differently, like regarding notices of campus events and such?
Yes! You’re still going to school AT Yonsei, so of course you can join! Plus it’s not like they check your ID or anything, so technically ANYONE off the streets who looks college-aged could join, I bet. :P
As for being worth joining… it really depends on you and what you make of it. I was not a big fan of Mentors Club for example, but some people had really good/fun experiences with it. I say join all of those clubs to at least get your name on the email list, and you’ll be notified of all their events, and from there just pick and choose what you think would be fun to participate in.
And no, I don’t think there’s any difference between how KLI students and other study abroad students are treated. You all simply have different focuses in what you’re studying; that’s all!
